Ansulala, contains the name for this husband-wife team, who collaborates on each painting or woodcut creation. Sixtus and Susana Garcia Dominguez share a mutual vision with family roots in Mexico. Their images tend toward figure-based abstractions, rooted in early Mexican history and culture. The appearance of two faces, sometimes mirrored, is a natural theme in the paintings of two individuals, who work together so intimately. The mirrored form embodies symmetry, a symbolic nod to the idea of duality, and it represents the artists' aspiration toward balance. The Ansulala message is about healing, nutrition, and prayer. Each piece, painted in oils on canvas or burlap (jute), is accented by gold leaf and surrounded with a homemade frame. Each collaboration created by the couple, is designed as a prayer.
