"My Cowboy Series", is a portfolio of portraits created in honor of the National Day of the Cowboy 2008.  "These portraits were my first ever focus on the characters of the West; even though, I have lived in the West since 1988.  It was about time.  Initially, I thought I wouldn't enjoy getting into the face of cowboys.  Surprisingly, I loved it!"

Her fascination with  portraiture is based upon an ability to "read" and understand the various feelings represented on faces.  Denise's impressionistic acrylic paintings typically have bold, bright colors, and are described as both primitive and modern.  Denise frequently uses large and/or small dabs of color in a modified pointillism style.  While the process is tedious, the finished product reflects colors that "play" on the canvas; therefore, bringing life to each piece.
Each painting, in this series, started by a simple drawing from a photograph, followed by a wash of acrylic paint, and then; dot, dot, dot. 

While her favorite works are portraits, she also enjoys painting desert landscapes and flora.
